Air Traffic Controllers, Communications Workers Back Giffords’ Campaign for Change

TUCSON - The National Air Traffic Controllers Association today announced its endorsement of Gabrielle Giffords’ campaign for Congress, citing her record of standing up for the people of Arizona. The statewide council of the Communications Workers of America also announced its endorsement of Giffords.

“Gabrielle Giffords has demonstrated that she has the fortitude to stand up for what’s right,” said B.J. Florence, a Tucson-based rank-and-file member of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, Local U90. “She demonstrated this strength when she stood up to the Majority in the State Senate and blocked the harmful budget that they were trying to push through in May of 2003.”

Florence also cited Giffords’ experience in the State Legislature. “She’s the only candidate with a solid track record,” he said. “In Congress, she’ll be a strong advocate for the working people of Arizona.”

Giffords thanked NATCA for its backing. “I am honored to be endorsed by our air traffic controllers, the men and women who keep our skies safe and keep our transportation network thriving,” she said.

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) represents over 20,000 air traffic controllers, engineers, and other safety professionals.

The Communications Workers of America State Council also announced their endorsement of Giffords. Last month, the CWA Local 7000 announced their support of Giffords, and this endorsement brings the CWA’s support of Giffords to the statewide level.
