GIFFORDS ENCOURAGES YOUNG VOTERS AT FESTIVAL
Calexico and Jim Adkins join Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords at GO VOTE 2008

TUCSON—Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords united with acclaimed Arizona musicians Saturday to deliver a simple message to nearly 1,400 people: Engage in the process; Learn about the issues that affect you and vote.

Giffords joined Calexico, Mariachi Luz de Luna and Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World in encouraging young adults in particular to become engaged in the 2008 election.

“It is critical that younger voters play a role in this and all elections because the choices made in November will greatly affect their lives,” Giffords said. “Choosing candidates with the best policies to address the energy crisis, the war in Iraq and the faltering economy will change their opportunities in the future. Sometimes young people think that individually they cannot make a difference, but at Go Vote 2008, they were able to meet people from across Southern Arizona who are doing just that with their work in the community.”
