GEN. WES CLARK STEPS UP FORÂ CONGRESSWOMAN GABRIELLE GIFFORDS
Former NATO commander calls Giffords a fighter
TUCSON—Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is honored to announce the support of General Wesley Clark for her re-election campaign.
Clark, who rose to the rank of four-star general during his 34-year career in the Army, has placed Giffords on top of a list of “Three Fighting Women” who will receive support from his political action committee.
WesPAC – Securing America’s Future, which sent out a fundraising email last week on Giffords’ behalf, was founded in 2003 by Clark to elect candidates focused on restoring America’s security and prosperity.
“Gabrielle’s business experience has made her an effective leader, successfully pushing seven bills and amendments into law while introducing over 20 pieces of legislation in the House,” said the announcement from Clark, who was NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander from 1997 to 2000.
Clark also cited Giffords’ “commitment to expanding health care for American families and promoting alternative energy research and development” in selecting her for his PAC’s support.
Clark is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was valedictorian of his calls. He is a Rhodes Scholar, Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star and Presidential Medal of Freedom. In his 2004 run for the White House, Clark earned 25 percent of the vote in Pima County.
